About the Artist

A woman with shoulder-length brown hair smiling, sitting outdoors with a young boy and girl. The boy, with light brown hair, is wearing a blue striped shirt, and the girl, with blonde hair, is wearing a gray dress with purple polka dots and a bow headband. They are sitting on a dirt ground with a blurred stone wall background.

Hi, I’m Julie! For as long as I can remember, ever since I was a little girl, I have always loved to create.

Perler beads, suncatchers, friendship bracelets and lanyards, knitting/crocheting hats and scarves and baby blankets— I was always making things and giving them as gifts.

One of my very first jobs when I was 16 years old was making hemp necklaces at a bead kiosk in the mall. (Ahh, the good old days!) And I even made the jewelry for myself and my bridesmaids for my own wedding.

During the first months of COVID I stumbled into acrylic fluid art, at first just a hobby, which over the last 4 years has expanded into its own true small business, An Empey Canvas. You can see my Acrylic work on the Portfolio page.

Outside of art, I am lots of different things — a mom of 2 beautiful kids, wife of 11 years, a Registered Dietitian / Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, a violinist, a golfer, and a lover of nature and animals.

It brings me such joy to offer my creativity to such a meaningful form of art, and be able to share it with you!
